Screened Porch Plans

Screened Porch Plans can sometimes evolve into something more. In our case the designing and planning stage developed into a four season room with a smaller screened porch next to it.

Living in Michigan we decided we would get more use from a sunroom year round. We still wanted a screened porch so I came up with this plan.

It starts out with a 14 x 16 sunroom and then opens to the screened porch. From there it transitions to a deck with stairs to a 14 x 21 patio.

My wife and I enjoy the screened porch through out the summer. This design was a big improvement from the old deck that we replaced.

With the back of our house facing south it could get very hot and windy, not to mention the bugs. And besides, it was falling apart. So it seemed as good a reason as any to make it better than it was before.

I designed the screen porch on the east side of the sunroom to avoid the wind and late afternoon sun. Along with the patio where we grill it makes for a versatile outdoor living space.

This design came from looking through materials and thinking through our want list. Better Homes and Gardens Porches and Sunrooms is a good book to help you plan your screen porch if you’re looking for resources.
