Gas Powered Lawn Edger – Review

If you are looking for a gas powered lawn edger you’re on the right track. I bought this one 16 years ago and it’s still doing a great job.

I replaced the blade for the first time a couple years ago. I usually edge the driveway and sidewalk every three or four weeks. The blade rides against the edge of the concrete and wears down over time.

What I like is its power to do the job quickly and easily. Mine is a 3.5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton. The blade is 7 ¾” long x 1 ½” wide.

The blade can be tilted too. I haven’t needed this feature, but it’s nice to have the option if you do.

I sometimes use this edger to cut the edges of our plant beds where the grass is starting to invade. (The blade can be set deep enough to cut the roots.)

We don’t have lawn edging around our plant beds because I haven’t had good experiences with it. They tend to come back out of the ground with the frost in Spring.

If you decide to use this type of edger around your plant beds make sure you know where any of your underground wires or cables are. I’ve heard of TV and internet cables being cut without even realizing it. The next time you turn on the TV can be an unhappy surprise.

I only heard about it…it wasn’t me! Really!

I use a gas powered string trimmer for trimming around the house and other vertical surfaces. When it comes to edging the driveway, sidewalks and flower bed planting areas this powerful gas edger does an effective job.
