Craftsman Style Home Plans

Craftsman style home plans have been a favorite since the early 1900’s to 1942 when they became widely available as mail order home plans. They have become more popular again in the 1990’s to the present. They’re known for their inviting front porch and heavy columns.

They include built-in bookshelves and cabinets. Most feature wood, stone or stucco exteriors along with wide eaves and a low pitched roof.

Instead of enclosed eaves, the roof overhangs display rafter tails that add architectural detail. In some cases I’ve seen simplified versions of this. Roof support beams are exposed to give a similar feeling without going all out exposing every rafter tail.

Window and door trims are thick prominent features too. These homes have a lot of warmth and charm that many home owners appreciate.
